The surgical instrument such as a fluid operated drill (10) has a housing (18) with a fluid connection defining a fluid passage in a chamber for pressure fluid flow. The connector has a seal for selective closure of the fluid flow. The connector can be thermally operated to allow flow above a set temperature, such as one hundred and twenty degrees Celsius.
