A cartridge for use in non-lethal applications comprises an anterior portion (1) and a posterior portion (2). The posterior portion comprises a recycling mechanism (3), which is initiated on activation of a primer (10) and the anterior portion has a nose portion suitable for receiving a projectile (17). A source of energetic material (11) is located in the anterior portion, this being initiatable by a reaction produced on activation of the primer to cause propulsion of the projectile from the cartridge.
