A decoding apparatus for an MIMO system and a method thereof are provided to realize the high PER(Packet Error Rate) performance as reducing the complexity of a receiving stage. A decoding apparatus comprises the followings: a demultiplexer(100) which de-multiplexes inputted receipt signals, and outputs pilot and data symbols; a channel estimator(200) which receives the pilot outputted from demultiplexer, and then estimates the channel of a received signal to output a channel matrix; and an MIMO decoding unit(220) which outputs a receipt signal vector from the data symbol outputted from the demultiplexer, and then generates a soft decision value.
