The present invention relates to transparent glazing. It comprises at least one layer of intumescent material between sheets of glass. The intumescent layer is a layer of hydrated alkaline silicate in the preparation of which the silica is at least partially introduced in the form of an aqueous suspension of silica particles with an average grading greater than 40 nm and preferably greater than 50 nm.
