摘要 1277603 Electrochemical analysis FABRIQUES DE PRODUITS CHIMIQUES DE THANN ET DE MULHOUSE 7 Nov 1969 [8 Nov 1968] 54739/69 Heading G1N The invention relates to the continuous measurement of titanous or ferric ion concentrations in ore solutions for the production of titanium dioxide, (for which purpose there should be no ferric ions and only a small proportion of titanous ions. Measurement is made in a moving solution to avoid local variations in concentration due to the measuring current. In one process a ferric ore solution may be reduced by circulating through a tower loaded with metallic iron until the titanous content rises to 2.5g/l Fig.1 (not shown) or titanous rich solution may be oxidised by addition of the ferric rich ore solution Fig.3 (not shown). Measurement:- 50 m-v. is applied to attack resistant electrodes e.g. of platinum in the circulating conduit and the current measured as the oxidation or reduction proceeds, and the state of the process determined from a calibration chart, Fig 2 (not shown), (which indicates that current decreases as ferric ions are reduced and then increases again with increase of titanous ions.) CLEANING ELECTRODES: to depolarise the electrodes they are connected to an A.C. source for e.g. 10 seconds every 30 seconds.
