PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve convenience of a device by achiving smooth transfer to vehicle guidance when a user manually parks a vehicle. SOLUTION: This parking supporting device for the vehicle is furnished with an image pickup means to pick up an image of the rear of the vehicle, a parking section line recognition means to recognize a parking section line by analyzing a picked-up image of the image pickup means, a vehicle guiding means to guide the vehicle to a target parking position decided in accordance with the parking section line recognized by the parking section line recognition means and a starting instruction receiving means to receive starting instruction of the vehicle guiding means by the user, actuates the parking section line recognition means in satisfying a prescribed condition including a shifting position of the vehicle to be a shifting position for reverse traveling in a state where the starting instruction receiving means does not receive the starting instruction and so guides an occupant that it is possible to start the vehicle guidance by the vehicle guiding means when the parking section line is recognized as a result of this actuation.
