PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable navigation device which surely judges whether to perform a map matching without giving its user trouble, and performs suitable map display processing. SOLUTION: When it is determined by a moving speed determination means (CPU 11, moving speed determination program 15b4) that a moving speed calculated by a moving speed calculation means (CPU 11, moving speed calculation program 15b3) is lower than a predetermined threshold, a current position detected by execution of a detection program 15b1 is displayed on a display unit 13 along with map information stored in a map information database 15a1, by a display control means (CPU 11, display control program 15b9).
