PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of reading an image without causing distortion on the image with a simplified construction and processing even in the device for decelerating/accelerating a reading scanning carriage by empty capacity of a buffer memory. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus S includes reading means 2 for reading an original image for every line while moving a reading scanning carriage 20 in a sub scanning direction; a buffer memory 7 for temporarily storing read image data with the reading means 2; and control means 1 for controlling a moving speed of the reading scanning carriage in response to empty capacity of the buffer memory 7. The reading scanning carriage 20 has an acceleration sensor 21. The control means 1 determines reading timing of the line image data by the reading scanning carriage 20 based on the acceleration detected by the acceleration sensor 21. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
