PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a "disk apparatus" to detect a failure by self-diagnosis when no disk is detected by an optical detector. SOLUTION: When the detection output of a plurality of optical detectors facing the disk changes from "level (1)" to "level (2)", "level (3)", and "level (4)" when the disk is loaded, it is determined that a normal disk is loaded normally. When the disk is not detected in the above order and the disk is determined to be abnormal and unloaded, an optical detector most likely to fail is determined. When the same result is repeated a prescribed number of times, the optical detector is determined to be in a failure. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
