PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device designed so that wrinkles and cracks are prevented by preventing much meandering in a belt-like member and the edges of the belt-like member are made less liable to be damaged, and the long life of the edges is ensured. SOLUTION: The fixing device includes: an endless belt, which is heated by a heating means; and a pressure member pressing the belt, thereby forming a nip area between them. The fixing device passes recording paper through the nip area, thereby fixing an unfixed image on the recording paper. The width of the belt is set greater than the dimension of the pressure member in the direction of the belt width. Ribs are formed along both the edges of the belt in the direction of the belt width.
