COMMUNICATION APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR SUPPORTING FAST HANDOVER BETWEEN HETEROGENEOUS NETWORKS

A communication apparatus for supporting fast handover between heterogeneous networks, and a method thereof are provided to minimized the delay and damage of packet caused by the delay of handover and to enable a multiple mode terminal to select and use an optimized network by using path delay information and path bandwidth information as to each kind of heterogeneous network. An MMT(Multi-mode terminal)(150) includes plural interfaces, and the each interface provides the capability of access to a heterogeneous network. The MMT is able to access a first network(120) and a second network(130), here the first network and the second network are heterogeneous networks. In order to select one of plural connectable heterogeneous network, the MMT transmits a BU(Binding Update) message to an HA(Home Agent)(142) through the plural interfaces. The MMT transmits a first BU message through the first network and a second BU message through the second network. The BU message uses biding update ID sub-option extension of monami6 of IETF for the registration of CoA(Care or Address).
