1,214,097. Cold liquefied gas storage tanks. CONCH OCEAN Ltd. 4 March, 1969 [26 March, 1968], No. 11382/69. Heading F4P. The flat top wall 6, Fig. 1, and each flat side wall 4, 5 of a L.N.G. storage tank of non-selfsupporting material e.g. metal supported by an external load-bearing heat insulation material (not shown) has a plurality of inwardly projecting convex parallel corrugations 2, intersected by similar corrugations 3 of smaller cross-section, and adjacent edges, which are referred to as corners, are connected together by corner pieces 7, Fig. 3 having inwardly convex corrugations 9<SP>1</SP>, 101 meeting at a formation 11 provided with excess material to allow for thermal expansion and corrugation; the cross-section of each corrugation 9<SP>1</SP>, 10<SP>1</SP> increasing towards the formation 11 and the cross-section at the portions 9a, 10a at the free edge of limb 7a, 7b being equal to the crosssection of the corrugations 2, 3 to which they are secured by welding. Thus the cross-section of portions 9a, 10a are equal to each other and to the small corrugations 3 of side 4 and top 6 which are joined together by a plurality of said corner pieces extending along the adjacent edges of 4 and 6. When connecting side 5 to top 6 the free edge portion of one corrugation in the corner piece is the same size as a large corrugation 2 in the top 6, whilst the corresponding portion the other corrugation in the corner piece is the same size as a small corrugation 3 in the side 3. Each corner piece for connecting sides 4 and 5, has the free edge portions of its corrugations equal in size to large corrugations 2. |
