An HPT/VTE2 protein derived from Arabidopsis thaliana, a gene coding the protein, a recombination vector containing the gene, a transformed plant, a method for increasing the content of tocopherol in plant, and a seed of the plant are provided to increase the content of tocopherol in lettuce. An HPT/VTE2 protein derived from the Arabidopsis thaliana involved in the synthesis of tocopherol comprises an amino acid sequence represented by the sequence number 3. Also the HPT/VTE2 protein derived from the Arabidopsis thaliana involved in the synthesis of tocopherol comprises an amino acid sequence represented by the sequence number 4. The HPT/VTE2 protein comprising the amino acid sequence represented by the sequence number 3 contains the sequence having at least 50% homology with the amino acid sequence of the sequence number 3.
