[Also in Division H1] In a laser having a totally internally reflecting prism defining one of the resonant cavity reflectors the entry face of the prism is arranged to intersect the laser beam at such an angle that no part of the laser beam reflected from this face can re-enter the active medium. As described, the prism is rotated and in one embodiment consists of a right-angled prism the input face 5 of which meets the reflecting faces 8, 9 at angles which differ from 45 degrees by a few degrees. In a modification the input face is parallel to the axis of rotation but is displaced by a few degrees about a parallel axis so that the lines of intersection of the input face with the reflecting faces are not parallel to the line of intersection of the two reflecting faces with each other. |
