1,142,869. Cartridge-actuated tools. OLIN MATHESON CHEMICAL CORP. 20 May, 1966 [1 June, 1965], No. 22602/66. Heading B4C. A cartridge-actuated tool for driving fasteners, such as nails, into masonry or the like, comprises a driving piston 36 movable in a cylinder 2 between a first firing position and a second driven position, the piston being returned from the second position by means of a stack of elastomeric washers 44 compressed during the driving stroke, the compressed stack of washers also acting as a resilient buffer in the event of overtravel of the piston. The washers, which may be made from a polyurethane elastorner, are so dimensioned that the periphery of the upper washers in the stack are clear of the wall of the cylinder, their bores engaging with the pistonrod 36, while the lower washers are clear of the rod and engage the cylinder wall; air vent holes 54 are provided in each washer. Cartridge chamber 8 is provided. |
