PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anticancer agent effective for treating malignant tumors, especially ovarian cancer. SOLUTION: The anticancer agent comprises a protein which is a variant of a diphtheria toxin and has activity of hindering an HB-EGF from binding to an EGF receptor and does not substantially have the toxicity of the diphtheria toxin, a protein which contains at least a receptor binding domain of the diphtheria toxin composed of part of the diphtheria toxin or a complex protein containing the protein or the like, has activity of hindering an HB-EGF from binding to an EGF receptor and does not substantially have the toxicity of the diphtheria toxin as an active ingredient.
