An image processing device which computes the feature value of the face section according to each of pieces of image data obtained in time series and compares the computed feature value and the threshold to recognize the face section. The image processing device is provided with a means which computes the direction of the face according to the image data, a feature value database which associates the feature value computed from the pieces of image data with the direction of the face and stores the feature value, a judgment means which judges whether or not the number of stored feature values associated with the direction of the face is equal to or larger than a predetermined number, a means which recognizes the face section according to the feature values computed from another piece of data mentioned, the stored computing result associated with the direction of the face and the threshold when it is judged that the number of stored feature values is equal to or larger than the predetermined number, and a means which recognizes the face section according to the feature value computed from another piece of data mentioned, the stored feature value associated with the direction of the face different from the direction of the face and the threshold when the judgment means judges that the number of stored feature values is smaller than the predetermined number.
