PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a terminal device connected to a local area network to be used also as a slave unit of a telephone set connected to a general telephone line, without disposing a dedicated extension telephone line. SOLUTION: An extension telephone system includes a telephone set 1 to which a telephone line is connected, and a terminal device 2 which is connected to the telephone set 1 via a computer network and is communicable with the telephone set 1, wherein the telephone set 1 comprises a voice signal/data converting means which converts a call reception signal received from a telephone line 3 into a call reception data signal to transmit it to the terminal device 2 and converts a call transmission data signal from the terminal device 2 into a call transmission signal to transmit it to the side of the telephone line 2, and the terminal device 2 includes a call means 21 which converts the call reception data signal received from the telephone set 1 into a voice and converts the inputted voice into the call transmission data signal to transmit it to the telephone set.
