PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for joining different kinds of metal, which method can suppress the excessive push of an electrode especially to a metallic material having a low melting point, and as a result, can prevent the deterioration of the joining strength due to the decrease of the plate thickness at the joined portion when the different kinds of metal is joined by the resistance welding, and further to provide a joining apparatus to be preferably used in this joining method. SOLUTION: A material to be joined is composed by overlapping different kinds of metallic materials 1, 2. When the material to be joined is welded by the resistance welding, for example, rod shape jigs 4 are arranged in the neighborhood of an electrode E1 as a means for suppressing the decrease of the plate thickness so as to mechanically control the relative displacement between the electrode E1 and the metallic material 1.
