An optical film, an optical compensation film, a polarizing film, and a liquid crystal display device are provided to improve the contrast ratio, particularly contrast on front direction and oblique direction. An optical film has a first optically anisotropic layer formed with the composition containing the liquid crystalline compound with at least, and a second optically anisotropic layer containing at least one of the first class selected from the cycloolefin-base homopolymer and copolymer. The optically-anisotropic layer satisfies the following relation Re(450)/Re(650)<1.25. The Re is in-plane retardation of the layer at a wavelength. At least one liquid-crystal compound is a rod-like liquid-crystal compound, and in the optically-anisotropic layer, the molecules of the rod-like liquid-crystal compound are fixed in a hybrid alignment state,.
