A plasma display apparatus and the driving method is provided to relieve current stress at a driving circuit when polling with high deviation at the reset waveform of the scan electrode. In a plasma display apparatus and the driving method, a plasma display panel includes a plurality of discharge cells corresponding to each electrode. A panel electrode drive unit(520) generates the driving signal supplied to the electrode. A down lamp switch is connected between the one side of the electrode and low level voltage source. A switch control unit(540) is connected to the down lamp switch and generates switching pulse to turn on/off lamp switch during turn on/off period so that falling ramp signal outputted from electrode drops from the first voltage to the second voltage.
