In a method of coking in whicn briquettes comprising, e.g. 1/3 bituminous coal and 2/3 coke, are passed while at their moulding temperature of 400‹ to 450‹ C. to a sand coker, the hot briquettes are immersed in a liquid hydrocarbon binder at 200‹ to 450‹ C. for not more than 120 seconds before being passed to the coker. Binders mentioned include coal tar, coal tar pitch, and bitumen from crude oil. The briquettes should be left for up to 5 minutes before dipping for gases to escape. |
