<p>1291324 Breaking algae-oil-water emulsions TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 7 Sept 1970 [20 Nov 1969] 42716/70 Heading C1C [Also in Division C5] A process for breaking an algae-oil-water emulsion into gases, oil, coke and an aqueous phase comprises coking the emulsion, cooling to form a gravity-separable four-phase system comprising gases, oil, coke and an aqueous phase, venting off the gases, removing said oil and filtering off the coke from the aqueous phase. The emulsion may be coked under autogenous pressure at 450-700‹ F. for 0.5 to 120 mins. and cooled to below 212‹ F. In the shown apparatus the emulsion is preheated in heat exchanger 12, coked in heater 14, passed through heat exchanger 12 to cool it by heat exchange with emulsion passing through the heat exchanger 12 to heater 14, and passed to settler 18. Gas is vented through line 22, oil is removed through line 20 and a slurry of water and coke is passed through line 24 to a filter consisting of sand or gravel to separate the water and coke. The water may be further treated with oxygen under pressure at above 450‹ F. to reduce its COD.</p> |
