A data processing apparatus, method and program and a recording medium are provided to allow the user to search contents more easily by setting up identification information for distinguishing the contents based on metadata added to each content. A data processing apparatus includes a title information acquisition unit(101) acquiring title information of each content which is included in metadata added to each content and relates to the title of the content; an information extraction unit(102) comparing the title information of the contents in order to a common part of the title information for all the contents; and an identification information setting unit(104) setting up the identification information of each content based on the other part of the title information except the common part.
