A system and a method for detecting and managing the duplicate multimedia file based on audio contents capable of using efficiently the storage space are provided to prevent the redundant recording of the multimedia file in which content is overlapped. A system and a method for detecting and managing the duplicate multimedia file based on audio contents comprises the followings: the file entry part(10) which a plurality of multimedia files is inputted; the audio characteristic detecting part(20) which analyzes audio data included in the inputted each multimedia file as described above and extracts the audio fingerprint; the file duplication checker(30) which mutually compares the extracted each audio fingerprint and determines the repetition yes or no between the multimedia file to the based on content.
