<p>Curable comp. consists of (a) a liquid comp. contg. (i)is not >50% bitumen, pref. 20%; (ii) condensation homopolymer of furfuryl alcohol having viscosity 30-200 poise formed by polymerising furfuryl alcohol in an acidic environment free of furfural, and (iii) furfural in an amount 10-400% wt. of homopolymer; (b) 30-85% of a filler, based on mixture of (a) and (b), and (c) an acid catalyst for furfuryl alcohol-aldehyde systems in an amount sufficient to cure the mixture of (a) and (b). The cured compositions are insoluble in common organic solvents, are not readily softened by heat and have high compression strength. Used as cements, mortars and coatings.</p> |
