<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a recording mark capable of surely obtaining a preferable reproduced signal quality while suppressing the number of recording parameters used. <P>SOLUTION: A pulse string for forming each recording mark having a first predetermined recording mark length to a maximum recording mark length includes a leading portion that includes a leading pulse, a terminating-end portion including a terminating-edge pulse and a cooling period, and an intermediate portion constituted of an intermediate period. A pulse string for forming each recording mark, having a recording mark length shorter than the first predetermined recording mark length to a minimum recording mark length includes a leading portion including a leading pulse and a terminating-edge portion not including a terminating-end pulse but a cooling period. The heat of a front edge is controlled by the recording parameter of the leading portion, where the first predetermined recording mark length to the maximum recording mark length are sorted as being equal. The heat of a rear edge is controlled by the recording parameter of the terminating-edge portion where the second predetermined recording mark length to the maximum recording mark length are sorted as being equal.
