PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a car lighting system for an elevator, allowing easy work during replacing a light source of a lighting unit while avoiding the toes of passengers from hitting the lighting unit or the lighting unit from getting into view fiel of the passengers by improving the construction of the lighting unit which is provided on a baseboard portion of a car. SOLUTION: The baseboard portion 22 provided under a side plate 3 of the car room of the elevator has an opening portion 27a opposed directly to the inside of the car room and a non-opening portion 27b not opposed directly thereto, and the lighting unit 32 for lighting a floor is provided in an inside space 27 of the baseboard portion 22. The lighting unit 32 can be displaced to the positions of the opening portion 27a inside the baseboard portion 22 and the non-opening portion 27b via a hinge 31. It is normally held at the position of the non-opening portion 27b and displaced to the position of the opening portion 27a during replacing the light source 34 of the lighting unit 32.
