PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering angle detection device for a steering system capable of dispensing with a projection-like movement part in the outside of the steering system to enable safe operation, preventing precision in the detection of steering angle from being changed depending on large or small steering angle, eliminating necessity of readjustment in the detection of steering angle after mounting the steering angle detection device on a vehicle again, and detecting a steering angle accurately irrespective of eccentricity of a steering shaft. SOLUTION: In this steering angle detection device for the steering system, an inner cylindrical body 1 is provided on a top face of the steering shaft 62, an outer cylindrical body 2 is put on the inner cylindrical body 1, and a gudgeon pin 2b provided on a top rear surface of the outer cylindrical body 2 is inserted into a gudgeon 1c provided on a top face of the inner cylindrical body 1. A pin 2c provided protrudedly on a top face of the outer cylindrical body 2 is inserted into a chest 3 fixed on a supporting column 4, which is provided in a casing top cover 67, a detent means for preventing the pin 2c from rotating and allowing it to displace in the radial direction is provided in the chest 3, a scale 6 is provided on an outer peripheral face of the inner cylindrical body 1, and a steering angle detection optical sensor 7 opposing to the scale 6 is provided on an inner peripheral face of the outer cylindrical body 2.
