PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve driveability and exhaust emissions when starting running of a vehicle immediately after starting an engine while preventing a crack of the element of an air-fuel ratio sensor caused by adhesion of water. SOLUTION: It is determined whether or not condensate water exists in an exhaust pipe 16 based on elapsed time or the like after starting the engine. When it is determined that the condensate water does not exist therein, main energization control controlling energization of a heater is performed to increase the temperature of the sensor element of the air-fuel ratio sensor 17 to an activation temperature. At that time, when a shift lever is operated to a running range (a D range or the like), it is determined whether or not the condensate water exists under a determination condition for the running range. When it is determined that the condensate water does not exist, timing for starting the main energization control is performed earlier than a case where the shift lever is in a non-running range. Thereby, when the shift lever is operated to the running range and the running of the vehicle is started immediately after starting the engine, the activation of the air-fuel ratio sensor 17 is accelerated and air-fuel ratio feedback control is started earlier.
