Pumpable mix consists of 100 (wt.) pts. binder mixture of 50-60 wt. % steel mill slag, 35-45 wt % granulated foundry sand at 5-10 wt. % gypsum or anhydride, all ground together to Blaine specific surface area of 3500-4500 cmi/g, and 40-50, pref. 45 pts. water. Fine-grained filler may be added to maintain stability. Mix sets rapidly, with almost no loss in vol. High strength results in gas-tight plug and permits reduction in thickness and eliminates need for reinforcement.
