PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus performing high-speed photographing and normal photographing without requiring large-capacity recording media.

SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: a camera section 21 which outputs a video signal; a video encoding section 23 which encodes the video signal by a first encoding system and outputs the encoded video signal as main-content encoded data when the video signal has a normal frame rate, and encodes one predetermined frame output from the camera section 21 in a period corresponding to one frame of the normal frame rate by the first encoding system and outputs the encoded frame as the main-content encoded data, and also encodes the remaining frames by a second encoding system and outputs the encoded remaining frames as difference encoded data when the video signal has a fast frame rate; a recording processing section 36 which records the main-content encoded data as a main-content file and the difference encoded data as a difference file in a recording medium 9; and an imaging frame rate control section 31 which switches the frame rate of the camera section 21 to the fast frame rate on receiving an instruction for high-speed imaging.
