PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of driving a PDP device for reducing background light emission and improving darkroom contrast further even for an ALIS type panel for which the electrode of an adjacent cell is present close. SOLUTION: In the method of driving the plasma display device for which first electrodes X and second electrodes Y extending in a first direction are adjacently and alternately disposed, first and second display lines are formed on both sides of the second electrodes and interlace display of alternately displaying them in different fields is performed, one display field is constituted of a plurality of sub fields, each sub field is constituted of at least a reset period, an address period and a maintenance discharge period. The reset period includes at least a write discharge step and an erasure discharge step, and the voltage of the write discharge step is made different in at least a part of the sub fields.
