PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power line communication system that hardly causes a communication failure even when load noise, flying noise, or the like is mixed with a power line. SOLUTION: The power line communication system is provided with: a transmitter 22 having a power line transmitting part 28 for transmitting a signal through a power line 1 and a radio transmitting part 27 for transmitting the signal by radio; and a receiver 31 having a power line receiving part 35 for receiving a signal from the power line transmitting part 28 through the power line 1, a radio receiving part 34 for receiving a signal from the radio transmitting part 27 by radio, and a diversity part 36 for combining the respective signals received by the power line receiving part 35 and the radio receiving part 34 respectively or selecting a signal having the better receiving quality and outputting the combined signal or the selected signal. The radio transmitting part 27 is provided with a transmission delay circuit 29b for delaying a signal to be transmitted for a prescribed time, and the power line receiving part 35 is provided with a reception delay circuit 39a for delaying a received signal for a prescribed time.
