<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently cool a discharge lamp, in relation to a light source, in particular, a light source used for a projector. <P>SOLUTION: This light source device includes a discharge lamp, and a reflecting mirror surrounding the circumference of the discharge lamp, and reflecting light in a certain direction, and has, on the reflecting mirror, a slit-like opening guiding cooling air from the outside to the discharge lamp. The light source device is structured such that cooling air from a cooling fan directly hits against the discharge lamp through the slit without largely changing the flow of the cooling air.
