Proposed is a decorative Moiré effect appliance (1), comprising a housing (10) with an optically transparent portion (11), two grids (20) with a periodicity ?<SUB>g,1</SUB> and ?<SUB>g,2</SUB> arranged in optical relationship with the transparent window (11), and the housing comprising a light source (30). The decorative Moiré effect appliance (1) is characterized in that at least one of the grids comprises optical filters (60). This is especially advantageous as the invention provides a construction capable of creating Moiré effects in a predetermined set of spectral colors in accordance with the spectral characteristics of the filters. Preferably, the two grids (20) are arranged to be part of a multilayer coating. Preferably, one of the grids (20) is provided with a lenticular or lenslet array (50). Preferably the color filters (60) comprise electrically controllable liquid crystal cells enabling a dynamic Moiré effect. |
