PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mixed composite material containing carbon nanotubes and carbide derived carbons, an electron emission source containing the mixed composite material and a method of manufacturing the same, and an electron emission element adopting the electron emission source.

SOLUTION: The mixed composite material includes: carbon nanotubes; and carbide derived carbons manufactured by carrying out the thermal reaction of a carbide compound with a gas containing a halogen group element and extracting the remaining elements other than carbons in the carbide compound. The method of manufacturing the electron emission source containing the mixed composite material is disclosed. The electron emission source which is manufactured by the method and the electron emission element adopting the electron emission source are disclosed. Herewith, the mixed compounding of carbon nanotubes and carbide derived carbons is carried out, thereby the electron emission source can be provided in which the screen effect generated at the time of the use of a lot of carbon nanotubes can be inhibited, the capability of emission of electron is excellent and which excels in homogeneity and has life elongation.
