The device has a grill grate arranged within a housing lower part (1) above a fireplace or an electric heater, where the grate is provided for positioning a cooking vessel and/or a frying pan or a baking surface that is made of steel. A housing upper part (3) is formed for use as a cover and is hinged at a longitudinal side of the lower part, such that the upper part can be removed and is locked in an opened position. The upper part has an exhaust gas and waste gas outlet (4), which is fitted with a pipe for realizing a chimney effect, where the pipe has a length of 50 centimeters.
