A composite comprising an inorganic porous bone matrix and a compatible, bioabsorbable polymer or copolymer of a lactone monomer or mixture thereof, the composite having been prepared by the apatitic calcium phosphate, or an osteoconductive, bioabsorbable derivative thereof, initiated ring-opening polymerization or copolymerization of the lactone monomer within the pores of said bone matrix and a method of manufacture thereof.
