The drive has a stator (2), and a rotor (7) that is movable back and forth along an axis (3). The stator has a magnetic field guiding core with legs (5, 6), where each leg extends with a respective foot (8, 10) to the rotor. The foot has an angular surface (9) and magnets (22, 23) that are arranged in series. The lengths (L2) of the magnets, the breadths (B1) of the legs and the distances (A1) of the legs are varied along the axis. An independent claim is also included for a method for cooling goods and/or for solidifying fluids.
