Generating a script to perform a secure write with user confirmation in process control systems

A script for writing data to an element in a process control system is generated using a graphical configuration interface. User input from the interface is used to generate the script. The configuration interface may be generated in response to receiving a user selection. The user selection may be associated with a function block, a function module, a safety instrumented function or a logic solver. The user selection may use a configuration application. When executed, the script generates a graphical dialogue to perform a secure data write, sends the dialogue to a user, receives a confirmation from the user via the dialogue and sends a write confirm request to the element.
