Disclosed is a magnetic recording medium having high recording density and separation resistance, which does not require a binder resin and can be manufactured by a simple process. Also disclosed is a method for manufacturing such a magnetic recording medium. Specifically disclosed is a magnetic recording medium (10) comprising a magnetic recording layer which is formed by coating the surface of a base (31) with a mixture containing magnetic particles (21) whose surfaces are covered with a first film compound having a first reactive group and a crosslinking agent (12) having a plurality of crosslinking reactive groups each of which forms a bond by reacting with the first reactive group, and curing the mixture by a crosslinking reaction between the first reactive groups and the crosslinking reactive groups.
