PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress decrease in a charging function of an image carrier, even if the amount of inorganic fine particles on the image carrier increases downstream of a cleaning step so as to obtain a proper image. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes a charger 903 for uniformly charging the surface of a photoreceptor 902, an application mechanism 6b for applying a lubricant on the surface of the photoreceptor 902, and a cleaning unit 922 placed in an upstream of the application mechanism. A toner added with inorganic fine particles is used for developing an electrostatic latent image, wherein a volume average particle diameter is 3 to 8μm, the ratio (Dv/Dn) of the volume average particle diameter (Dv) to the number average particle diameter (Dn) is in a range of 1.00 to 1.40, a shape factor SF-1 is in a range of 100 to 180 and a shape factor SF-2 is in the range of 100 to 180.
