摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction engagement device which can sufficiently reduce a manufacturing cost by eliminating the process of annularly connecting separator plates divided into circular arc shapes. SOLUTION: A second brake B2 comprises a separator plate 30 to be connected to a gear case 25 via a spline, and a friction plate 31 to be connected to a ring gear 17. The separator plate 30 is divided circumferentially, and has spline teeth 32 on its outer peripheral portion. The gear case 25 has spline grooves 33 on its inner peripheral portion so as to be engaged with the spline teeth 32. The width L2 of the tip end portions of the spline teeth 32 is formed to be larger than the width L1 of the root portion of the spline teeth 32. The width L4 of the opening portions of the spline grooves 33 is formed to be smaller than the width L3 of the bottom portions of the spline grooves 33.
