<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt device capable of surely suppressing meandering and breakage of a belt member without uselessly stopping an image forming apparatus and causing useless maintenance work, even when the replacement of the belt members is performed, and to provide the image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The belt device includes: a first detecting means 80 that detects the displacement of the belt member 8 in the width direction; a second detecting means 88 that detects the displacement of the belt member 8 in the width direction beyond a prescribed distance; a correcting means 13 that corrects the displacement of the belt member in the width direction. During a period from starting power supply to ending the traveling preparation of the belt member 8, the displacement of the belt member 8 in the width direction is corrected by the correcting means 13 on the basis of the detection result by the first detecting means 80, and the traveling of the belt member 8 is stopped only when the second detecting means 88 detects that the belt member 8 has displaced beyond the prescribed distance. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
