PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a display screen of a liquid crystal display panel looks blinking like flicker for a user when a backlight consists of a plurality of divided backlight blocks. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device includes: the liquid crystal display panel; a backlight 110 having backlight blocks 112a to 112e which have light sources disposed therein and illuminate the liquid crystal display panel by light emitted from the light sources; a light diffusing plate 111 which diffuses light emitted from the backlight blocks to the liquid crystal display panel, toward adjacent backlight blocks beyond interfaces between respective backlight blocks; and a backlight control part 19 which controls lighting and extinction of each of the plurality of backlight blocks.
