<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seal ring which can reduce its sliding resistance. <P>SOLUTION: The seal ring 1 seals the annular clearance 5 between two members 3, 4, and has a seal portion 11 which is formed on the counter sealed fluid side A of a ring body so as to have a sliding surface 11a to be slidably bought into contact with the side wall surface 41 of an annular groove 40 on the counter sealed fluid side A via a lubricating film of sealed fluid, and a contactless portion 12 which is formed on the furthermore bottom side of the annular groove 40 than the seal portion 11 so as not to come into contact with the side wall surface 41 of the annular groove 40 on the counter sealed fluid side A. The seal portion 11 and the contactless portion 12 are provided circumferentially over the whole circumference of the ring body. The seal portion 11 is provided with recesses 13 formed on the edge portion of the sliding surface 11a on the contactless portion 12 side by partially cutting out the edge portion.
