PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorbing type steering column system capable of restraining application of impact force on a driver in first collision and second collision of a vehicle while improving an assembling property and reducing manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: This shock absorbing type steering column system is furnished with a steering column 12 to support a steering shaft 11 free to rotate and supporting brackets 21, 22 to support this steering column on a vehicle body side member. The supporting bracket 21 arranged in the rear of the vehicle is furnished with first impact force absorbing parts 21d, 21e to absorb the impact force in the front of the vehicle applied on the steering column from the driver in the second collision by plastic deformation following a stroke to the front of the vehicle of the steering column. The supporting bracket 22 arranged in the rear of the vehicle is furnished with column backward movement regulating parts 22c, 22d to regulate movement of the steering column to the rear of the vehicle by the impact force in the first collision of the vehicle.
