The invention relates to lighting elements and methods for the production thereof in order to make available particularly large-area lighting elements based on organic light emitting diodes. The aim of the invention is to design lighting elements that homogeneously emit electromagnetic radiation across the entire possible area. Said aim is achieved by covering the organic light emitting diodes with an electrically insulating intermediate layer (50) on which an electrically conducting metal layer (60) is arranged that forms an electrically conducting connection to the base electrode (20) along with contact elements (61) penetrating the intermediate layer.
