1373257 Turret lathes TOYODA KOKI KK 8 Oct 1971 [13 Oct 1970] 47012/71 Headings B3T and B3B In a machine tool such as a lathe having a rotary main spindle 3 with a draw-bar actuated chuck 4 and a saddle 6 carrying a cross-slide 9, the cross-slide supports to indexable tool turrets 12, 13 which carry rotary and stationary tools respectively. The saddle is controllably displaceable along the machine bed 1 by a feed screw 8 actuated by a pulse motor 7, the crossslide being similarly actuated by a feed screw 11 and motor 10. The tool turrets are each indexably mounted on the cross-slide by an elevating and pivoting action which lifts the head by hydraulic pressure means to disengage the toothed coupling rings 22, 23 and 24, 25 respectively, indexes it by rotation of wormwheels 32, 33 by action of fluid actuated rack and pinion means 42, 43 to bring the next tool required into the operative position and then retracts the head to engage the clamping rings to accurately locate the turret in its newly indexed position. The drive for the main spindle 3 is by way of belts 70 and headstock gearing from a motor 5, the spindle being provided with hydraulically operated draw-bar actuating mechanism 52 and a further pulse motor 107 is provided for angularly indexing the spindle by way of bevel gearing 108, 109 to accurately orientate a workpiece carried in the chuck 4 and is selectively engageable with the main spindle when the drive from motor 5 is disengaged. The drive for the rotary tool spindles in the turret 12 is selectively operable from the main drive motor 5 through shafts 117 and 124 by way of a magnetic clutch and headstock gearing to the tool spindle gearing 130, 134 in the turret head 12. The respective drives are selectively operable in a predetermined sequence depending on the particular series of operations i.e. turning drilling tapping &c., to be performed on a given workpiece. |
